Mickael Barzalona en quelques mots

Originaire de Corse, Mickaël Barzalona est né le 03 août 1991 à Châteaurenard près d'Avignon. Petit fils de l’entraîneur Christian Barzalona, il intègre l’Afasec et plus précisément l’école des jockeys du Moulin à Vent à Chantilly. Il rentre comme apprenti chez André Fabre.

Le 16 octobre 2007, Mickaël Barzalona monte sa première course à Saint-Cloud où il termine septième avec Pentland Firth.

C’est le 3 mai 2008, alors âgé de 17 ans, que le jeune jockey remporte sa première victoire à Fontainebleau en selle sur Texan Dream.

Le 24 octobre 2009, le jeune prodige décroche sa soixante-dixième victoire avec Lasos à Clairefontaine. Il passe alors professionnel et commence à se faire une place dans le métier.

En 2010, Mickaël Barzalona triomphe pour la première fois à Meydan (Dubaï) avec Sabotage. Le 4 avril de la même année, le jockey remporte sa première Listed avec Simon de Montfort à Saint-Cloud. Le 25 avril 2010, il s’impose pour la première fois au niveau Groupe avec ce même Simon de Montfort dans le Prix La Force (G.III) à Longchamp.

Début 2011, il réalise un magnifique meeting d’hiver de Dubaï sous les couleurs Godolphin et continue à monter occasionnellement pour cette écurie en Angleterre durant le reste de la saison. C’est le 22 mai 2011, à l’âge de 20 ans, que le prodige signe sa première victoire de Groupe I en selle sur Wavering dans le Prix Saint-Alary. Le mois suivant, il marque les esprits en triomphant dans le prestigieux Derby d’Epsom en selle sur Pour Moi.

Le 2 mars 2012, Mickaël Barzalona signe un contrat à temps plein avec l’écurie Godolphin. La carrière du jeune jockey prend un nouveau tournant puisqu’il quitte la France et rejoint Newmarket en Angleterre. Le 31 mars 2012, il honore comme il se doit son nouveau contrat avec l’écurie Godolphin en triomphant dans la Dubaï World Cup avec Monterosso.
