Mlle Delphine Santiago en quelques mots
Passionnée par les chevaux depuis l’enfance, Delphine Santiago commence sa formation de jockey dès 14 ans chez Jean Guillemin et son fils Didier. Deux ans plus tard, en 1995, elle effectue sa première course sur la piste de Dax avec Batali. Ce petit bout femme (1m50 pour 49kg) remporte son premier Quinté + en 2000 pour Patrick Nicot, avec Kalimisik, alors qu’elle est toujours apprentie. La première victoire d’une longue série puisqu’elle devient par la suite la femme la plus titrée de tous les temps dans cette catégorie, avec neuf évènements à son actif (statistique arrêtée au 31 décembre 2013).
Arrêtée de 2003 à 2004 suite à une grave chute lors d’une course, elle reprend le chemin des hippodromes en free-lance car désormais limitée physiquement. Néanmoins, elle remporte le Prix de la Femme Jockey de plat (ex-æquo avec Amélie Foulon) en 2013, prouvant que sa carrière n’a pas pris fin avec son accident.
